Biography
Mayté serves as director of the UC Davis AVANZA Initiative within the Division of Inclusion Excellence.
Mayté is a social scientist at heart. She earned a PhD in social psychology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where she began her work studying close relationships. She continued this line of research as a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Psychology of UC Davis. Her career in Higher Education has involved understanding non-academic factors that contribute to the student success, with a focus on traditionally marginalized communities.
As the director of AVANZA, she leads efforts to identify and address barriers to student access, equal opportunity, and success.
Mayté has served as chair of the UC Davis Latinx Staff and Faculty Association (LSFA), where she enjoyed being a liaison between the UC Davis Chicanx/Latinx community and the campus leadership.
As a Staff Advisor to the UC Regents, Mayté's goal is to continue being a force that keeps the UC system moving forward towards its equity goals. She plans to make intentional efforts to enhance the voices of those groups who don't traditionally have their voices represented.
